We saw what payday asked of him.
We spent years working in a hair salon. Whenever payday came around, we watched the owner gather papers, add up sales and calculate each person’s pay. After a day of running the salon, there were still all those numbers to work through.
Sometimes he was exhausted. Mistakes happened in the salary calculations, which meant checking the figures and doing the work again. We could see how frustrating and draining it was.
We wanted to help him carry less of that burden. To make payday less stressful, with less time spent bent over paperwork. That simple wish is where Paybook began.
Then we started asking, “What if?”
What if a service and its tip only had to be recorded once? What if the numbers stayed up to date as the team worked, instead of being gathered and added up again at the end of every pay period?
We imagined a payday when the figures were already there: ready for the owner to review, pay the team and record what had been paid, without starting the calculations from scratch.
One question led to the next.
As we built, we kept drawing on our experience in the salon. What if the same app could help a manager stay on top of appointments, staff and the everyday work of running the shop?
Those questions became more features. The vision for Paybook grew, but the reason we started stayed the same.
